This week, we catch up with noted hostess and designer, Miss Nyree Rain of OnSea.

Her Uncanniness, Miss Nyree Rain

"Her Uncanniness," as she is sometimes known, discovered Caledon around 4 1/2 years ago when her typist read about Caledon and Oxbridge in a book. She was brave enough to share what she looked like in her first days.

She also explained that, due to her fae blood, her appearance can change drastically very quickly.

Miss Nyree's first Caledon home (and her first home in SL) was a dorm room at Oxbridge. Once she "aged out" of the dorms, she found a small plot in Kittiwickshire. Later, she converted the Victorian home she kept here into a shop space. She spent some time living in Tanglewood but her growing collection of carnivorous plants made a larger parcel necessary. This is how she happened upon living in the shadow of Mt. Caledon in OnSea. She explains that she's been very happy in OnSea though her plants have had to adjust to the changes in their primary diet--no longer are Tanglewood deer available, so they must make do with careless passers-by.

The band of illustrious pirates, the Black Moon Marauders, takes up much of Miss Nyree's time, though her induction was coerced--she was boorishly hit on the head with a belaying pin. (This reporter thinks that the shockingly expansive assortment of rums that the BMM has mastered may have much to do with the miraculous forgiveness experienced by their inductees.)

Miss Nyree also has a hand in designing clothing and jewelry for the grid and being a shop owner. Her shop in Kittiwickshire houses Rainy Fey Creations and Rainy Fey Petite. Look for her shop in grid-wide hunt lists.

As a hostess, Miss Nyree opens up her Gold Dragon ballroom over OnSea bi-weekly, alternating Wednesdays with the Blue Mermaid. She also has used her social skills for diplomacy by formerly serving in the Consulate of Europa Wulfenbach as their liaison to Mieville. As if all of this wasn't enough, Miss Nyree somehow finds time to play En Garde and Primtionary as well as attending balls held across the Steamlands.

When asked about a favorite memory of Caledon, Miss Nyree couldn't come up with just one:

"Nyree Rain contemplates:
'Perhaps the time I kidnapped Captain Tao Mistwalker?  Or maybe the time Admiral Callidus stole my airship, the Dragonstar, and Captain Wrath shot it down as he took it across Middlesea?  Donating fae blood to Miss Ember after she was injured by a giant robot?  Frying Admiral Callidus with my death ray the second time he attempted to steal my airship? (luckily I had good insurance!)  The time I sailed off into a zombie infested swamp with a vampire?  (no wait--that happened in New Toulouse)
Sorry, I simply cannot think of just one favorite memory.  Caledon is a very special place filled with wonderful people who have brought me to tears by their kindness many times--and not just a few residents, but many.'"

She continues:
"there was the time Skye was having viewer troubles and couldn't see someone's mesh hair, and while she was relogging to fix it, we ALL shaved our heads.
Or the time a newbie couple had strayed onto my property while doing the Caledon Quest, ignored me VERY rudely when I warned them to stay away from the chest in my pond, which then devoured the young man and terrified his girlfriend.
And of course there was the time one of my carnivorous plants ate Mr. Whybrow, his shopgirl Valerie Bluebird, AND their motor car.  That was the beginning of a tremendous friendship and I miss them greatly."

This reporter is sure that Miss Nyree isn't finished gathering whimsical stories of Caledon and her inhabitants. If you dare, wander over to OnSea to visit the lands of Her Uncanniness' pet plants. If you're lucky, they'll spit you out to continue your tour.
